Pique fabric, often referred to as PK fabric in the textile industry, derives its name from the English word “Pique,” which is pronounced as “PK” in Taiwan’s fabric market. This fabric is easily recognizable due to its textured, uneven surface. Depending on its weave structure, pique can be categorized into single pique (also called four-corner PK) and double pique (hexagonal PK), both of which are commonly made from cotton.
Pique is a type of knitted fabric, produced on large circular knitting machines. Its surface is porous and features a honeycomb-like pattern, giving it a unique texture compared to ordinary knitted fabrics. This structure enhances its breathability, durability, and washability, making it an excellent choice for garments like T-shirts, sportswear, and polo shirts. Due to its distinctive texture, pique is sometimes referred to as pineapple fabric.
In single pique, the fabric’s mesh is formed using a single-needle, single-row tuck. This creates a square-shaped pattern on the fabric’s surface.
Double pique is woven using a single-needle, double-row tuck, resulting in a hexagonal pattern. This structure is more intricate than single pique, offering added texture and durability.

The honeycomb-like porous structure of pique fabric allows for excellent air circulation, making it more breathable and quicker to dry than standard knitted fabrics. It is also highly washable, maintaining its texture and quality after repeated laundering.
Pique fabric is designed to absorb sweat effectively without deforming, making it ideal for activewear. Additionally, its high color fastness ensures that colors remain vibrant even after washing, making it a preferred choice for T-shirts and sportswear.
Pique fabric offers better stretchability than many other textiles, making it a popular material for polo shirt collars and cuffs. Its elasticity ensures a comfortable fit and maintains the garment’s shape over time.
The fabric’s bead-like structure enhances both air permeability and moisture-wicking properties, providing a soft, gentle touch. Even in hot summer conditions, pique fabric feels cool and comfortable, combining functionality with casual elegance.
Pique fabric holds its shape well and is resistant to wrinkling, even after machine washing. Its durability ensures garments retain their structure and style over time.

Pique mesh refers to fabrics with a concave-convex loop structure, creating a textured surface that enhances breathability, heat dissipation, and perspiration comfort. This makes it a popular choice for T-shirts, sportswear, and uniforms.
The mesh is created by interlacing flat stitches and tuck hanging arcs in a checkerboard-like arrangement. By combining rib and tuck weaves, designers can achieve various patterns, such as diamond-shaped or honeycomb effects.
Single-sided pique is a 4-way, one-cycle concave-convex fabric made using a single-sided circular machine. The back of the fabric typically has a square-shaped texture, leading to its industry nickname, square mesh.
Double pique features a hexagonal pattern on the back, often called hexagonal mesh or football mesh due to its resemblance to a soccer ball. In garments, this hexagonal structure is often used as the fabric’s front side to emphasize its textured appearance.
